Cask Hood Alembics

This distilling apparatus has a larger distinctively shaped vapour chamber (the cask hood) with a downwardly inclined tube to the condensing recipient which may account for the higher quantities of distillate obtained in each distillation process. A second or rectifying distillation is usually necessary to further purify the distillate. The three parts that make up the copper pot (bottom, belly and top) are brass soldered, and the thickness of the copper used in these alembics is also greater. Any other soldered unions may be of either brass or copper depending on its location, thus obtaining a non-lead unit. These models may be used for the distillation of alcoholic spirits, as is the case of the Iberian Peninsula, essential oils, medicinal herbal extracts, perfumes, rosewater or whatever your imagination might come up with.

TREATMENT: A first cleaning distillation is essential to clean impurities and other unwanted substances. These substances, which are inherent to copper, are deposited after the still has not been in use for a relatively long period of time.
